Catastrophic Break For Tar Heels

North Carolina point guard Kendall Marshall fractured his right wrist in their win over Creighton and reportedly has already undergone surgery. No official word on how it went or what the prognosis is going forward. No word on his status for their Sweet 16 match up against Ohio. If there is a positive… and there’s not. It’s that he’s left-handed, his injury is to his right hand, so maybe, maybe he tries to grind through it. But he says it hurts most when he dribbles. So that sounds bad. And it is catastrophic. Look, Carolina is loaded. But that’s the one guy who’s irreplaceable. He’s not a Player of the Year candidate. He’s not the best player on his own team. But he’s easily the most valuable. As valuable as any one player is to any contender. There’s probably not a better point guard in the country, certainly no better distributor in the nation and it all starts with him on that team. He’s the guy who makes them go offensively. Not only is he that important to them, they don’t even have another pure point on the team. If he can’t go, then it falls on freshman Stilman White, who’s averaging all of 4 minutes per game, or senior wing Justin Watts, who’s only played a couple of games in that spot. Look, this is a really tough cat: he jumped up like nothing even happened: didn’t complain, didn’t wince, and continued to play through it. But if he’s not right, or if they shut him down, it’s disastrous. They’ll have enough to beat Ohio Friday night, but I don’t see them winni
