Feeding Frenzy (page 32821)
Of course, the second Emmert stopped talking yesterday; the feeding frenzy for Penn St. players began. And while that also seems unsavory to some, I don’t have a problem with that either. Of course recruiters are bum rushing Penn State’s players. They see guys that are better than what they have and they have less than two weeks to get them in for a visit, signed and ready to play in a completely new environment. You can’t tell me you think it’s a good thing that these players have been released from their commitment, but then trip when someone offers them a place to land. You can’t have it both ways. I don’t’ have a problem with this either. Take Penn State running back Silas Redd. A number of schools reportedly are coming for him. Including USC. If they get him, he’d be leaving one school that’s about to start a bowl ban for another that’s just ending one. That’s pretty rich. But can you blame the guy if he does bounce? Why would he stay? Out of loyalty. That would be great, but don’t be shocked if he doesn’t. He could stay, arrange a few deck chairs on the Titanic and have no shot at playing for anything that matters. Or he can hop a bird to L.A, and possibly play for a National Championship this year. Sounds like a no-brainer. Penn state coach Bill O’Brien better be the best recruiter ever. Not only does he need to re-recruit Redd and talk him into staying. He needs to talk others into coming when he absolutely has nothing to offer them.
