I don’t know anyone who saw Robert Griffin III get laid out on a trick play Sunday, who didn’t think it was a dumb play call. Including the guy who called it, head coach Mike Shanahan: “watching the play, you feel like a complete dumb-bleep”. I’d be lying if I said he didn’t look like one also. He tried to justify it, though, saying he ran that same play dozens of times with John Elway and Steve Young and quote, “no one usually accounts for the quarterback and he’s by himself out there.” Right. Unless he’s a rookie sensation, with a huge bull’s-eye on his back who runs a 4.3 and has half the defense is out there keying on him, and accounting for his ear-hole. Also, Young and Elway had Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers around them that had to be accounted for. No one on the Steelers was worried about Josh Morgan or Lenny Hankerson. All the more reason not to set him up, to get lit up, Mike.
