Robin Lopez on Portland: ‘It’s a bizarre city, I’m weird as hell, it’s a match made in heaven’
A day after spending part of his 26th birthday at Disneyland, Portland Trail Blazers center Robin Lopez made his case for why Pirates of the Caribbean is the best ride at “The Happiest Place On Earth.”
“I think that’s the best example of everything that Disney does so well,” Lopez told The Jim Rome Show. “The attention to detail, the storyline, everything coming together in perfect synthesis.”
Only one season into his time in Portland, Lopez feels like it is the perfect marriage between player and city.
“It’s a bizarre city, I’m weird as hell, it’s a match made in heaven,” said Lopez. “I can’t believe how perfect a fit it’s been.”
The former first round draft pick out of Stanford also said his remedy for getting over a tough loss this season had been watching, The Goonies.
“There are a lot of great life lessons in that movie,” said Lopez. “The Goonies stick together, people don’t always believe in them, but they never give up, never say die.”
Unfortunately, not all of Lopez’s teammates share his passion for Disney and movies, or at least Disney movies. In a recent viral video, Lopez was the only Blazer who could name all Seven Dwarves and a few couldn’t even name one.
“It is a little heartbreaking,” said Lopez. “When my contract comes up I’m definitely going to have to search around the league and find that kindred soul that can name all seven. I think that’s going to be a huge breaking point for me.”
