It still seems surreal to me. Bob Griffin is going to Cleveland.
That’s a real thing? Is this real life? Better question: What do you want me to say, C-Town? Because I’m not looking to beat you down.
I don’t want to grab at the low-hanging fruit of saying these two losers deserve each other, and then chase it with some decades-tire snipe about the burning river.
RG3 and Cleveland are having enough people dump on them today without me doing it gratuitously. I’m not about that.
But – again, what do you want me to say? That I think this is going to be a great relationship. That Bob is the best athlete you’ve ever had at the position. That he’s going to finally change the tide in that division. That what a sensitive dude like Griff really needed was a change of scenery. I’m not saying any of that. Because the change of scenery he’s getting – is to a team that just lost two of its best linemen, its most explosive playmaker and did absolutely nothing in free agency.
And that division he’s going to? They still knock heads. They play D.
Ben Roethlisberger is 240 pounds of Steel & Kevlar – and he can’t even get through an AFC North season without getting hurt. But I’m going to believe that spindly Bobby is going to get out of Vontaze Burfict’s way? He can’t even get out of his OWN way. The best I can possibly say for this move is that Griffin is such a headcase that MAYBE a new town and a new coach may jumpstart some kind of confidence in him.
Especially when that head coach is Hue Jackson, an offensive guy who could get the Red Rifle to the Pro Bowl.
Maybe the best thing for Griffin is the expectations. Win 6 games as a Browns starter he’ll be a hero. Go .500 and they’ll retire his jersey.
But right now the jersey that comes to mind is that infamous one with all the QB fails on the back. There’s a spot for Griffin on the floor right under Manziel.
Listen, provided you use that second pick overall on your q.b of the future, I don’t have a huge problem with them rolling the dice on Bobby G.
I’m not going to sit here and say I know it’s going to work out, because it probably won’t, but I’ve seen worse gambles.
And while I definitely think you should worry about Bobby in your huddle- at least you don’t have to worry about Bobby being drunk in a club. Or worse, drunk at work. That won’t happen.
