Think the first weekend of playoff games was a big ol nap out? It could be worse- the NBA MVP could sit out. That’s the only question for Golden State after Steph Curry rolled his ankle in the second quarter of Game 1 against Houston. Do we play this dude and risk him making it worse? Or do we rest him and risk only beating Houston by a dozen? The team’s in a holding pattern, and all the takes from the guys involved are pretty obvious.

Steph says he wants to play. Steve Kerr says if there’s any chance he makes it worse, he’s sitting him. And Jim Rome says he should sit him… and Klay and Draymond while he’s at it.

Look, I get that Steph wants to be out there, and you don’t mess around in playoff series. But is this really a playoff series? Golden State has won 13 of the last 14 against Houston. They’ve already beaten them this year without Steph. And from the looks of Game 1… They could beat them at Oracle tonight if Kerr sat all his starters, put Shaun Livingston at the 5 and let Andy Varejao run the point.

I know, I know – James Harden could get hot, and nobody gets to the line like the Beard. Really? Because on Saturday he didn’t get to the line ONCE. Never mind their fire power on offense. Golden State worked Houston so hard on D, that the guy who led the entire league in free throws attempted didn’t even sniff the stripe a single time.

This supposedly high-stakes decision by Kerr… is one of the easiest he’ll ever have. Sit him down, and the rest of his guys will rally and roll. Play him, and he’ll only be there a few minutes before you’re comfortably ahead.

If I were a gambler, and I got an inside tip that Steve Kerr was going to start Steve Kerr at the point tonight, I’d still put a stack on Golden State and lay the points. No doubt.

My guess this morning is that Steph will find his way out there for a bit. But if the trainers say there’s even a 1% chance he can make that wheel worse, I’d sit him. Because that’s about the same chance the Rockets have of actually winning this series.
