A Stupid Dumb Ass

Back during his career Barry Bonds was a stupid dumbass. Just ask him. Those are his words.

The all-time alleged home run king and current Miami Marlins hitting coach apparently has done some soul searching. And he discovered that maybe he shouldn’t have been such a complete jerk. That’s what he told Sports On Earth. “Me. It’s on me. I’m to blame for the way I was portrayed, because I was a dumbass. I was straight stupid, and I’ll be the first to admit it.”

The first to admit it? Or the last to realize it.

Bare. I think the “first person” to be in on that take was probably a teammate back at Arizona State. “Hell I kick myself now, because I’m getting great press, and I could have had a trillion more endorsements.”

Totally, if you had just stopped belittling media members and bullying everybody – you could have got a sweet taste of that Pepsi money.

This the lamest episode of Dr. Phil. And the quotes just keep on coming. “I knew I was in the midst of that image, and I determined at that point that I was never going to get out of it. So I just said ‘I’ve created this fire around me, and I’m stuck in it, so I might as well live with the flames.”

Now I see him working. Once you go Alpha Hotel, you can never go back. Everybody rightfully thinks I’m a terrible guy, so why bother trying to change when you can just roll with it?

Thing is, Bare says he DID try to change. And it didn’t work for him and his teammates. This has to be the lamest part of his little therapist session. “I was like 0-for-21. And the first thing those teammates said to me was, “We want the old Barry Back” … We weren’t doing well, and I wasn’t doing well, but I still clapped my hands and saying “That’s okay, man. We’ll be fine.” But my teammates didn’t like that person. They wanted the ogre back.”

The guy is saying he couldn’t be a good hitter unless he was being a bad guy. And I’m saying that’s such a bunch of BS.

Don’t tell me that being respectful of people means you suddenly lose the ability to put the bat on the ball. I know baseball players have weird neuroses and superstitions, but I don’t buy this at all.

Like all Barry needed to do was walk into the clubhouse, be extremely condescending to somebody… Then go to to bat and launch one to the Cove. His slump busters were beat writers.

Maybe it’s just me, but why do I feel like the emergence of the new warm, fuzzy Barry is directly related to getting stiffed by the Hall of Fame? Because he’s been eligible for four years, the dude has 762 home runs, and he can’t even sniff 50% votes. And because those votes aren’t coming from a lot of the same people he treated like garbage. I just don’t think Barry getting all whimsical about what a “dumbass” is going to help his case any more than A-Rod admitting he was a d-bag.

We know. We’ve always known. You’re just finding out. If Barry really wants redemption- the first thing he should do is hold a press conference and admit he was roided out of his gourd. Another thing we’ve always known.

Great- you say were were stupid. Let me know when you want to admit you were roided. Glad Bare feels better about himself. But he should be regarded as maybe the best baseball player of all time, not one of baseball’s bad guys. That’s on him. He created this fire, he’s not climbing out of it.
