Washington Redskins safety Duke Ihenacho recently tweeted, “Get rid of Thursday night games.” The veteran joined The Jim Rome Show on Friday and explained the motivation behind his tweet.
“I just feel like Thursday Night games are a drag, man,” Ihenacho told Rome. “I feel like we need time to physically our body just need time to get healthy. It’s already hard playing every Sunday, and then when you shorten that week by a couple days, it’s hard to get physiologically and just physically ready to play that game.”
Due to the lack of recovery time, Ihenacho said you see a worse product on the field during the Thursday night games.
“They’re not as good as the Sunday games or the Monday games or the games on the weekend. It’s a reason, it’s not a coincidence,” Ihenacho said. “I think they’re trying to oversaturate football, and just try to push football down everybody’s throat and put it on Thursday’s, but I think its fine the way it is just having it on Sunday and Monday.”
Ihenacho went on to describe what it feels like waking up on Friday morning following a Thursday night game.
“It’s crazy… I feel like not moving, I don’t want to get out bed, every step hurts, every muscle hurts. Like your fingers hurt, your thighs, you don’t want to do nothing,” Ihenacho said. “So its hard man, it’s tough. I mean guys want to be tough guys, we’re all men in the NFL, and nobody wants to be the guy that can’t take it, but you know it’s harder for guys, but I would like to see us play on Sunday’s.”
