Bills fan, I’d love to tell you I’m surprised. But I’m not. And if you’re being real, you’ll admit that you’re not either.
Isn’t this the way it always goes? Isn’t this why, virtually every single year, I have to tell you to settle the hell down when something good happens. That your team is never as good as it or its loud mouthed coach thinks it is.
Didn’t I tell you last week, after you smacked around the 49ers, that this could be fool’s gold. I told you last week that 4-2 would probably turn into 5-5 before you finished body slamming your buddy through a beer pong table at a tailgate.
But now, I probably gotta walk that back because 4-2 might actually turn into 4-6 before you know it.
You’re supposed to handle the Dolphins if you’re for real. You’re supposed to bank that win before the hardest part of your schedule kicks in. You’re supposed to get to 5-2 before back-to-back-to-back games against the Patriots, Seahawks, and Bengals.
How much better does 5-2 sound before your showdown with the Hood and Tommy, than 4-3. Yet, your dudes just couldn’t handle success. They just couldn’t handle their business. Not if they’re letting Jay Ajayi make history against you.
And there’s no excuse. Rex Ryan brought in his brother Rob to run the defense and shut opposing offenses down. And in a game you really had to have, if you really are a contender, Ajayi and the Dolphins just abused Rob’s dee.
Never mind 5-2, looking at their schedule, if they don’t get right, right now, they’ll be looking at 5-8.
You think Rex doesn’t know this? Why do you think he played Shady McCoy on that bad hammy? How’d that go, Rex. 8 carries, 11 yards, and he left the game in third quarter, in a loss. That’s how that went. What the hell was he even doing out there in the first place. And if you brought Rex in because he’s such a dominant coach, why can’t his defense get off the field; and how did a guy like Ajayi just go for 200 yards plus against him. If he’s the best dee coordinator in the league like you keep telling us. Oh, and why did you mess with Belichick with that Walt Patulski stunt a few weeks back because you know that’s going to come back to bite you in the ass next week too.
That’s why you can’t pop off. That’s why they were never as good as Rex made them out to be. Because what did you really do? You shut out Jacoby Brissett — you beat Case Keenum and you got Colin Kaepernick making his first start in nearly a year. Great. Awesome accomplishments. You do that, and the last thing you want to do is act like you just won the Super Bowl.
You just keep your head down and keep moving. You don’t look up and start feeling yourself.
I have to be the one to always tell you this, Bills Mafia. But someone has to. And because I like you, and respect you, I’m always going to tell you not what you want to hear but what you need to know. And what you need to know is, this team is not as good as you think is, and Rex isn’t half the coach he thinks he is. And neither is his brother.
It’s going to be a long month and half, Bills Mafia. Drink up.
