It’s true about Charlie Strong: good man. Good coach. Good recruiter.
And no, three years is not a helluva lot of time. But if you’re at Texas and you go, 6-7, 5-7 and 5-7, you’re not getting a fourth year.
And if you’re that guy, with that record, you can’t lose to Kansas and keep your job. You have to be improving. You have to be making progress.
The fact, he ended his third season by losing to Kansas and TCU shows he wasn’t. He had to go.
I still think he’s a very good football coach. That will do a very good job for someone else… He’ll go to school on this experience; he’ll be better for it.
I’d hire Charlie Strong if I had an opening… But if I’m Texas, and I had a shot at Tom Herman, I’m making that move too.
And with Herman available, there was no way Strong was getting another year. Not after ending this one by losing to Kansas and TCU. He had a chance to make this a really difficult decision for Texas, but in the end, it really was a no-brainer.
