USA Today reports that Houston is reportedly closing in on Lane Kiffin: but apparently it’s not done yet.
And they’ve had some good coaches come through there. Tom Herman. Kevin Sumlin. Art Briles. So clearly, this is a good gig, they have resources and then can afford to take a pretty big swing.
So is this guy you want? Because of all his previous head coaching gigs ended really badly: USC, Raiders and Tennessee.
So he goes to Alabama in an attempt to get rid of some of that heat and rebuild his image by keeping his head down and working for and learning from Nick Saban. He did a good job there an now we’re lead to believe he’s ready for another head coaching shot.
But is he? Has he learned from his mistakes. Has he really changed? Who the hell knows.
And there’s really only one way to find out. And that’s to hire the guy and see him in action.
And as always, it’s about fit. Is that a good fit. I’m not so sure. Will Texas high school coaches like him and connect with him. I don’t know.
Also, say it is a good fit. And Kiffin kills it there. You have to think he’s going to bounce just as Tom Herman, Willie Taggart and Matt Rhule did when they took power five jobs this season.
So hire this guy if you want. I could even make an argument for it. Just know that you might be in the same exact spot 3 years from now; either be he killed it. Or he went Lane Kiffin again. Just know that going in, H-town.
