Eric Weddle signed with the Baltimore Ravens for games like this coming Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. A day after his team’s clutch 27-26 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the veteran safety joined The Jim Rome Show and was clearly focused on one thing, this week’s opponent, the AFC North leading Steelers.
“Holy smokes! Like when you think about it, as you’re a kid growing up I mean, this is the game. This is the game that you look to every year. Pittsburgh vs. Baltimore,” Weddle said. “Now, we get to go to Heinz Field with the history, a night game, Christmas Day, division on the line, I mean holy smokes! I’m just getting chills thinking about it.
“I mean, this is going to be as big time as game as you’re going to get in the regular season. This is a playoff game to get in. So holy smokes! We’re chomping at the bit, we’re excited, we’re pumped. We know it’s a huge challenge, the weapons they got on offense, the way they’re playing, they’re rolling right now, but shoot, we’re up for it, we’re up for it. We got them earlier in the season, it’s a different game now, but shoot, why not? Lets shock the world!”
Weddle said the biggest challenge in stopping Pittsburgh’s high-powered offense is the weapon in their backfield, next to two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger.
“I think it starts with Le’Veon [Bell]. I mean, he’s just an incredible talent, effective inside and outside and receiving the ball, screen game. I mean, he’s one of the elite players in this league that if you let him get going in the run game, it’s a long day for a defense,” Weddle said. “And Ben, just the big play capability with whether he’s inside the pocket or he extends plays and throwing the ball deep, they present a lot of problems play after play after play. You have to be on your game, and if you’re not one play or another, it could be a touchdown right there waiting for you. So it’s going to be tough, but we’re excited, we’re up for it and ready for the challenge.”
Weddle said he celebrates each win with some ice cream, and if they are able to beat Pittsburgh, he already has his dessert picked out.
“Shoot, I’ve already envisioned it. I’m thinking some Oreos. I’m thinking some Hershey’s Cookies and Cream white chocolate. I’m thinking some graham cracker. I’m thinking all that together with some sort of ice cream, maybe some sprinkles,” Weddle said. “I’m definitely going to town if, if we win this game.”
