Obviously, Jim Boeheim and Syracuse have a huge issue with not getting in to the Tournament. Personally, I don’t.
Sure, they had some quality wins; in fact, more than anyone who was on the line; 6 top 50 wins. And last year, that mattered to the committee when they let Syracuse in. This year, apparently it did. So Boeheim is going to argue, why did it matter then but not now. The committee can’t answer that. And it’s valid question.
But the truth is, the ‘Cuse has no one to blame for this but itself. How you’re playing late in the season matters every year; that never changes. And Syracuse lost 5 of their last 7. And for every good win they had, they had a bad loss to offset it. They may have beaten 5 top 50 teams, but the lost games to 5 sub 100 teams, including Boston College, who was outside the top 200 in the RPI. St. John’s beat them by 33! And they were 2-11 away from home, something else that does matter. And if the committee did let them in, their 84th in the RPI would have been the worst ever for a tournament team.
They didn’t do enough to get in. And I have no issue with them being left out. To me, Boeheim, in this case, doesn’t have a legitimate beef.
