LaVar Ball is back at it again, this time, blaming UCLA’s white guys for their loss in the Sweet 16: I could give you some hot take or rant on this guy, but I’m not going to. Because he’s annoying as hell.
And there’s nothing that can be said about him that hasn’t already been said. Except to say that when your entire brand is running your mouth and trying to get people to look at you and react to you, then every time you open your mouth, you need to raise the bar. And that’s what he’s doing.
That’s just the normal progression of things for this dude. You know, my son is better than Steph Curry. I was better than Michael Jordan. The white guys were the reason UCLA lost in the Sweet 16. Honestly, nothing could interest me less than this dude or what he comes flying out of his gap.
Now, what is interesting to me, is how NBA teams will look at the whole Ball package when it comes to the draft; because clearly, if you draft Lonzo, you’re not just getting him, you’re getting the old man too: Lonzo is a really nice player and seems really different than the old man. But do you want to draft him if it means he’ll be coming around and bashing the organization any time things don’t go well.
And on some level, what he says does matter, because for some reason, ESPN keeps running back to this guy to stick a mic and camera in his face. How many coaches and GM’s want that guy second-guessing every move? Steve Alford dealt with it because he no choice the vultures were sick of him, he was running out of time, and he had to have Ball to save his job. Plus, he knew that circus would only be in town for a year.
Think Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge won’t any part of that? Think anyone in the NBA wants any part of that?
