Another week and more speculation as to whether or not this is really going to happen. Over the last several months, there have been moments when there was no way in hell, something like that could ever go down. But then more recently, the vibe has been more of ‘there’s just too much money at stake for it not to happen.’
And Dana White says things like it might not be my preference, but I’m not going to stand in the way of Conor have a payday and night like this. And then you think, it might actually be inevitable. And right now it seems more likely than not that it will happen.
Right now anyway. Of course not everyone sees it like that. Take boxing promoter Bob Arum. He thinks there’s a good chance it won’t happen and that if it doesn’t, the UFC will be to blame because they want too big of a cut of Conor’s stack: Arum said, “I think the only impediment there is the UFC, because UFC doesn’t treat fighters the same way boxing promoters do. In other words, UFC fighters gets so much less than boxers do.”
It took all of five seconds for that to work its way back to White, who then jumped on Arum and started raining hammer fists. Not literally, but here’s his exact quote to the bloody elbow: “And Bob Arum? You piece of bleep. If you too. What do they know about this fight? You know what they know about this fight? Nothing.”
If this was fight night, Dana could have scratched himself the $50,000 check for a knockout of the evening. Quote, “you piece of bleep. F you!”
Again, I’ve never seen a commissioner of a sport or a president of a league, unleash that kind of fire. Imagine Roger Goodell or Adam Silver hitting someone, with a bomb like that?! Remember when Mark Cuban took the lumber to the NFL a few years back? Remember when he said, “Just watch. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.” I don’t recall Goodell responding with, and Mark Cuban. You piece of bleep!.. Bleep you too. What does he know about my league?!” Only Dana White.
And you know what he’s thinking. He hates Arum’s guts. And that this doesn’t concern him at all. So keep my bleeping name and company out your bleeping mouth, you piece of bleep. Bleep you.
Honestly, it’s hilarious to me. That’s one of those rare moments when I miss the ShowTime show I used to host. Where we could say and do anything we wanted. Because that quote and this story requires that we say what White actually said.
Hell, Dana would have come on the show and said it himself right into a camera, proving once again, it is the perfect match between the dude and the brand. Dana white and the UFC.
As for the fight, since I know exactly what is going to happen, and potentially how disappointing we’ll all be when it does, but that’s not going to stop me from talking about it and going to it or paying for it as well. And if that makes me a piece of bleep, so be it. Bleep you!
