What the hell were the Raiders doing burning a first round pick on Gareon Conley. A first rounder on a guy who has been accused of sexual assault with the investigation ongoing.
I cannot believe they did that. That’s a stunning pick. And not stunning in a good way either. I don’t want to hear about this guy has mid first round talent; or how physical a cover man he is. Or how his football acumen is off the charts. The guy is still under investigation for sexual assault.
So if you’re going to burn a first rounder on someone who is currently being investigated, you better be damn sure, damn sure, that there’s nothing to those allegations.
And even if there is nothing there, and he didn’t do what he has been accused of, it’s not a great look to take a guy who is going to speak to police Monday but will be in your facility today. Generally, you don’t want your top draft pick heading in to give a DNA sample and a police interview just days after you selected him. So they better know something, and he better beat this rap, otherwise they just wasted a valuable draft pick on a guy who was under investigation for sexual assault.
Conley has vehemently denied the allegations. And insists he’s innocent. He better be, for both his and the Raiders’ sake. Because right now, this is both a huge gamble and a really bad look for the Raiders.
