The Pittsburgh Penguins are… how do I put this….hard to kill!
Never mind hard to kill, impossible to kill. Because as long as there’s a pulse in this team, they’re going to find a way to win. Not dead, can’t quit. Not dead….can ‘t quit!
Not even when you’re short so many defensemen that you’re playing 6 left handed shots on the back line. Or when your body count is growing, and you’re getting next to nothing from your top two lines.
Doesn’t matter. Because you simply cannot kill them. They will not die. Especially when Penguins coach Mike Sullivan makes the brass move of the postseason, ripping arguably the hottest goalie this postseason, Marc-Andre Fleury from the nets after just one bad period. Not one bad game. One bad period. And roll the bones on last year’s cup hero Matt Murray, who showed up in Game 4, kept the Penguins in the series, and then had the best seat in the house for Game 5 went the Penguins offense finally did get rolling again.
4 first period goals in a 7-zip beatdown and now suddenly, the Champs are just one game from returning to the Finals:
The Penguins chased goalie Craig Anderson. They did the same thing to backup Mike Condon. And even after Guy Boucher waved the white flag and pulled his best guys off the ice to get keep them healthy for Game 6, the Pens kept it rolling, 7 different guys lighting the lamp on the way to that dominant win.
This Pittsburgh team is missing SO MANY BODIES. And it just doesn’t matter. Not after they looked dead and buried when Ottawa put 5 bullets in their chest in Game 3. And now Tuesday night in the Burgh — the toughest barn in the league — the Champs get a chance to get back to the finals. And maybe even earn a few nights off to get healthy before picking up their swords and going back to the war against either the Ducks or the Preds.
Head coach Mike Sullivan is pulling all the right strings. Captain Sid Crosby leading from the front. And most of all, a team that is busted up and on the verge of being ended, do what they always do: fought back. You simply cannot kill them. Not dead, can’t quit. Just when you think they’re toe-tagged, they go and drop a T.D. and an extra point on the Sens.
