Preston Brown talks 2017 Season, Bills Mafia, and more with Jim Rome

Buffalo Bills linebacker Preston Brown made 11 tackles in their 30-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The Bills have now won 3 of their last 4 football games, and are 4-2 on the season. Brown joined The Jim Rome Show Thursday on CBS Sports Radio and said it’s good to be a Buffalo Bill right now.

“It’s exciting, I mean anytime the Buffalo Bills are playing winning football it’s a great time for the NFL,” Brown said. “So everybody here at Orchard Park is having a great time and we are just trying to keep this winning streak up.”

In the second quarter of their win over Tampa, Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston was stripped, the ball popping loose and right into Brown’s hands. Yet the linebacker couldn’t hold onto the ball.

“It was like those scary movies. You’re trying to run away from the killer, then you’ve got your keys, then you’re trying to open the door to your car, and you drop your keys. And then you get in the car, and you can’t start the car up, that’s kind of how it was,” Brown laughed. “I picked it up, fumbled it, picked it up, kicked it. I don’t know what was going on, but it didn’t work out right. But I’m glad we still got it.”

The fourth-year linebacker hasn’t heard the last of the comments from his teammates, who continue to torment him for not cashing in on the opportunity.

“They are giving me the hardest time they can. People walking down the hallway in the facility rolling balls at me,” Brown said. “I mean it’s fun for me, but I know I have to do better to help this team. But it’s fun making fun of it right now.”

Drafted out of Louisville in 2014, Brown has suffered through some difficult seasons before this turnaround. But one constant has been playing in front of the passionate “Bills Mafia” fan base. Brown sees firsthand the impact they make during the game, but only hears about the legendary tailgate scene.

“It’s great. They’re always loud and crazy on defense, we love them on third downs. They’re going to force penalties, delay of games, stuff like that,” Brown said. “But we really wish we could see what happens before the games. Because we don’t see all the tailgating until afterwards on the internet, and that’s probably the best part of the Bills fans.”
