Royals Host Anti-Porn Workshop

The Kansas City Royals made some history over the weekend—which in baseball is a damn hard thing to do. I’ve said it before—when a sport has been played for 10,000 years, it’s almost impossible to do something that hasn’t been done before. But the Royals managed to do exactly that. Because over the weekend, they became the first Major League Baseball team to—you guessed it—host an anti-porn workshop. While 29 other teams were working on situational hitting and baserunning—the Royals were working on—resisting the urge to crack open their lappers and watch porn. The advocacy group that gave the seminar is called, “Fight the New Drug.” And according to their website, they exist to, “rise up and fight the status quo, rejecting the idea that porn is healthy, normal, or cool.” I understand the argument about health and normalcy—but what the hell does cool have to do with it? I don’t know too many people running around saying they watch porn to be cool. Or to fit in. Actually, I don’t know anyone running around saying they even watch porn. Usually people—don’t talk about it at all. Because it’s porn. But I’m not here to judge. How the Royals run their business is just that. Their business.   —whether that’s watching porn or holding seminars to encourage them not to watch porn. I’m not here to shout down porn from some moral high ground—and I’m also not here to fight Chatsworth’s battle for them. Where you come out on the dangers of porn is up to you. But clearly it’s important enough to Royals to bring in some outside help. And, look, there’s 25 dudes in that clubhouse, who hit the road three months a year, and stay in places with complimentary wi-fi and some late night choices on their TV. Baseball is a numbers game—and the numbers say there’s probably a few dudes on that squad addicted to porn. In fact, there’s probably a few dudes on every team, in every sport that are dealing with this. Hell, in every business in every industry. Addiction is an issue in every walk of life. If you had an issue with alcohol or drugs, wouldn’t you hope your employee would be there to provide assistance. Well, the Royals are there for their employees. This just sounds a little bizarre because the Royals are the first team to do it. Again, I’m not here to judge. Or to check your browser history. Your life, your time, your choice. And what the Royals do with their business is their business. But I don’t have an issue with them having their players sit in on this seminar. And if you clones want to talk about this, you can, but you’re going to have to come in with something stronger than, really Rome, they’re concerned that some of their guys might have a sex addiction.  Maybe I should attend too, Rome, because I’m addicted to sex. In fact, everyone I know is. It’s SEX. Don’t send me that. Again, it seems a little unusual, because no other MLB team has done it. But I have no issue with it. And if you’re looking for me to blow them up for it, or to bust out with an 818 for life take today, you’re going to be disappointed. How about this? You do you. And they do them. And we all keep moving with the respect and maturity for this story that I know you have.
